The 30 best horror games for PC!

Horror games are very popular on all platforms, including PCs. So check out the top 30! Whether playing solo or multiplayer you have in the games below many reasons to be scared and to want to go all the way in all the very well built stories below!

1. Silent Hill 2 (2001)

Obviously, Silent Hill 2 is the big name on this list. Although the first title in the franchise was a great success, it is its continuation that consolidates the series as one of the best in the horror genre. Taking command from James Sunderland. He goes to Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his deceased wife, Mary.

For most of the gameplay, all the player does is roam Silent Hill. It is possible, by the way, to avoid a good amount of enemies if you know how to walk in the right places. In these wanderings, you must find keys that will open doors, bars and other access to previously blocked places.

2. The Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (2020)

The Resident Evil 3 is in the hall of the best horror games in history. Much of this because the biggest villain in the game is none other than Nemesis. The most feared zombie in the entire franchise is responsible for causing some minor heart attacks in the player during gameplay.

In this third installment, you control Jill Valentine as she tries to escape Racoon City. You'll have to face a series of zombies, solve puzzles and roam the city looking for a way out. Along the way, always without warning, you'll be surprised by Nemesis, who uses a rocket launcher as a weapon.

3. The Evil Within 2 (2022)

Anyone who played the first title in the franchise knows well what to expect from The Evil Within 2: scares, action and that exploratory and stealthy feel that adds even more tension to an already tense game.

Again the player controls Sebastian Castellanos, now looking for his lost daughter. To do so, Sebastian goes to the simulated world of Union, where the girl is being used as a guinea pig for an experiment. Once there, he finds that Union has become a nightmare, with demonic creatures attacking its residents.

4. Amnesia: The Dark Descent (2010)

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a more psychological and conceptual horror game. It won two awards as an independent game, mainly for its gameplay proposal. The player controls Daniel, who wakes up in a gloomy castle, not remembering why he is there. The only thing he knows is that there is some creature following him.

While walking around the castle trying to find out how he got there, the player needs to solve several riddles and puzzles to proceed. The game is completely based on stealth, without any kind of offensive action. There's even a bar indicating your stealth level.

5. Friday the 13th: The Game (2022)

Specially thought for Jason Voorhees fans, Friday the 13th: The Game is a very fun game for those who like multiplayer horror. There are eight players per game, with seven likely victims and one controlling the fearsome Jason. The mission here is clear from both parties: survive and kill, respectively.

But of course the game is not just that. Unlike other asymmetrical multiplayer games, Friday the 13th allows counselors to attack Jason with tools, weapons, and traps. Although it doesn't kill the serial killer, it can slow him down, which helps.

6. Alien: Isolation (2022)

We can say that Alien: Isolation is part of the series of films that was successful in theaters, at least in terms of plot. The player controls Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Reaver's character in the movies. The objective is to investigate Ellen's disappearance in space.

In this mission to understand what goes on inside the Sevastopol space station, Amanda must survive a Xenomorph creature. In addition to the alien, there are uncontrolled cyborgs and humans that must be faced.

7. Left 4 Dead 2 (2009)

Although Left 4 Dead 2 is from previous generations of games, it remains one of the best horror games for PC when it comes to cooperation. In the traditional game mode, it joins four players on one side, representing the survivors. On the other side are the Infected, who will try to prevent survivors from reaching their destination.

In Versus mode, the Infected are also real players. There is also a single player campaign, in which the remaining survivors are controlled by artificial intelligence. The most fun point of the game, however, is precisely the cooperative part, which makes the task of surviving much more dynamic and exciting.

8. Outlast (2022)

Outlast is that classic investigative horror movie that takes place in an asylum, but in a playable version. As journalist Miles Upshur, the player investigates a psychiatric hospital after being contacted by a source. Once inside, he discovers that there is something sinister going on in the building. The mission is to find out what it is exactly and also try to get out of there alive.

Miles cannot attack his enemies. The most he can do is push them sometimes. Its advantage is being able to climb to higher places, which hospice patients cannot reach. He can still crawl and hide indoors. The hospital is completely dark, so Upshur uses his camera's night vision to see the way.

9. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2022)

Forget Umbrella Corporation: Your enemy in Resident Evil 7 is a little more sinister than that. It all starts with a letter from his wife, Mia, who has allegedly been missing for three years. Her cry for help takes the player, Ethan Winters, to the Baker family's grounds, an inhospitable, dark place that will give him a big headache until the end of the game.

Overall, Biohazard's gameplay is very similar to previous titles in the franchise. You have utensils and firearms at your disposal to face the sick Bakers. In addition to the family, there is a species of bacteria in human form that roams around the mansion where 99% of the game takes place.

10. Dead by Daylight (2022)

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer-only experience, which is by no means a negative point. Although the game does not have a single-player campaign or follows a clear narrative line, it provides an electrifying dynamic and gameplay. You take control of an assassin or a victim, in an arena, being forced either to kill or to survive in order to emerge victorious.

If you want to play as an assassin, choose one from a list of good options. Some are inspired by horror movies, like Freddy Krueger, Ghostface and Leatherface. The fun part is that each serial killer has unique abilities and unique ways of attacking victims.

11. Resident Evil 2 (1998)

The presence of two different points of view (Claire and Leon) and the greater freedom of exploration in Raccoon City made Resident Evil 2 one of the best horror games in the franchise. Zombies gained more skills, increasing the difficulty level for players. And the remake, released in 2022, made the classic even better.

12. Dead Space (2008)

In Dead Space you take command of Isaac Clarke, an engineer fighting an alien invasion. Aliens are viruses that take control of humans.
