Even though playing online with other players is a lot of fun, there are times when we just want something to play alone, regardless of the internet. At these times, nothing better than a single-player game with content or gigantic campaigns that make us spend hours and hours to complete. With that in mind, we've put together a list of the 27 best offline games to play in 2022 below. Check it out!
Attention: The games below can also be played online, but we have selected those with main focus in offline mode, that is, games that remain amazing even when your internet goes down. However, depending on where you purchase the game, you may need an internet connection just to access it.
1. Grand Theft Auto V
A masterpiece. Even in a franchise full of blockbusters, GTA V is a standout that has taken the series name to new heights. With a larger open world than ever before, tons of playable characters (with their own abilities and characteristics) and a volume of never-before-seen content, the game can be played and replayed again and again and never loses its fun.
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
One more point for Rockstar. Red Dead Redemption 2 stands out for the same reasons as GTA V, as it managed to improve every aspect of its previous title. The most beloved western of video games has incredible graphics, passionate photography and plot, and also addresses several relevant topics such as racism, immigration and politics in the United States. Another Rockstar gem.
3. Minecraft
The biggest sanbox game in the world, Minecraft is one of the most played games today and is aimed at different age groups. In addition to being extremely appealing to younger audiences, the game is also aimed at those who spend hours building and editing true works of art within the game. Here, your imagination is really the limit to what's possible within the game.
4. The Witcher 3
At this point in the championship, The Witcher 3 almost needs no introduction. This action RPG has become a true reference of the genre and, so good, it left video games to become a TV series. 6.Horizon Zero Dawn
Released for PC only in 2020, Horizon Zero Dawn has earned its place among the best PC games. The game is an action RPG with everything you can expect, with a very interesting story that takes place in the 31st century, when humanity returned to live in tribes in a world dominated by gigantic robotic animals. The game follows a similar line to games like The Witcher 3 and Skyrim, with an incredibly rich open world, top-notch graphics and insane content to discover.
7. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Another very famous game, Skyrim was highly awarded at the time of its release and is also one of the namesake games in the RPG genre. With a huge open world, the game allows you to explore different locations with their own characteristics such as economy, traditions, etc. In addition, here you can learn numerous secondary skills (in addition to the main ones used in combat) such as cooking, forging, opening locks, etc. Mastering these skills can help a lot in quests and even unlock "secret" quests.
8. Dark Souls III
Another one for the busy RPG genre. Dark Souls III is a masterpiece whose main differential is the very high level of difficulty that is not limited to the bosses. Despite gameplay and mechanics similar to other games in the genre, if you haven't played Dark Souls III yet, you will surely be surprised at how much more difficult the game is than most.
9. Portal 2
An extremely original puzzle that, without a doubt, is among the best offline PC games. Portal 2 equips you with a weapon of portals that you need to use to solve different puzzles and thus pass each level. For this, you will need to have a lot of spatial awareness and patience to discover the infinite possibilities of interaction and movement that you can explore.
10. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Another GTA that deserves a place on this list, GTA San Andreas managed to add several incredible elements to a franchise that already seemed flawless. Of course, the game isn't as complete and polished as the last title in the franchise, but it still deserves your consideration. Here you follow the life of the character CJ and, in addition to all the typical elements of GTA, you can customize your character the way you want. The game is such a success that it won an equally successful mobile version.
11. Resident Evil 2 (Remake)
Resident Evil 2 received one of the best remakes ever made in any game. While maintaining the essence of the original title, Resident Evil 2 Remake has improved several aspects of the gameplay and introduced the 3rd person perspective in the "over the shoulder" style, instead of the fixed camera of old. The story, of course, remains exactly the same and we can still play with Leon and Claire.
12. Fallout 4
Yes, more of an RPG (what to do if the genre is perfect for offline play?). This time the theme is futuristic post-apocalyptic in a world devastated by a nuclear war. The game was also highly awarded and praised for the amount of content and, most importantly, the level of freedom offered to players.
13.Batman: Arkham City
Batman: Arkham City is one of the best superhero games, without a doubt, but it also pleases even those who are not fans of Batman. With several characters, very interesting and action-packed combats, varied missions and an extremely vast content, the game has set a very high standard for anyone who is a fan of superhero games.
14. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is yet another masterpiece by Hideo Kojima and, within the vast Metal Gear series, it is the title that offers the player the most freedom to decide how to complete missions. Here you can basically explore all the elements on the screen to create reactions on enemies and thus pave the way to your goal. All this is possible due to very advanced and realistic artificial intelligence that allows you to create chain reactions such as, for example, dropping a dead body from the hill to attract the attention of guards and thus advance unnoticed.
15.Hollow Knight
Hollow Knight is a metroidvania commonly described as a 2D Dark Souls, as it has the same dark themes, action, similar combat mechanics and tough bosses. A big difference in the game is that it doesn't follow a linear pattern, that is, you don't need to advance in the same order, defeating the same enemies every time. You can make your own path and, if you encounter difficulties, you can follow others, evolve, equip yourself better, and then return to the old path, stronger.
16. Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Most Wanted innovated in racing games by inserting police chases in the middle of competitions. In addition to offering everything you would expect from a Need for Speed game, here you can choose between being an illegal racing driver or a police officer. No matter what you choose, each side has its missions that involve a lot of speed and adrenaline.
17. Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5 is an open world FPS with extremely beautiful environments. As always, here you'll take part in yet another civil war and you'll have to complete the most varied missions. Throughout the game, you'll be able to explore numerous environments, drive different cars and use a veritable arsenal of weapons to defeat humans and animals.
18. Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect is a sci-fi RPG where you explore galaxies, kill aliens, level up and acquire new equipment. Certainly one of the most successful franchises on this list and with a big difference: your choices influence the outcome of the story.
19. Elysium Disco
The big winner of The Game Awards 2022,
Disco Elysium was the big winner at The Game Awards 2022, taking the categories for Best Narrative, Best Independent Game, Best RPG Game and Best Independent Debut. Such recognition is no small feat, as the game is possibly the most original RPG ever created. Here, all interactions and combats take place in the form of dialogue trees that explore (VERY) deep into the main character's mind: an alcoholic detective who doesn't even remember his name, but needs to solve a crime.
20.Doom Eternal
Replacing the old Doom on that list, Doom Eternal is the latest title in the diabolical franchise. Overall, the game is extremely faithful to the previous titles, with the same action, disturbing creatures and a sick atmosphere throughout the gameplay. The only differences here are the improved graphics and a more demanding strategy factor than previous games, which doesn't affect the frenetic action at any time.
21 Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
A game that perhaps has not received due recognition from the public, despite being awarded at The Game Awards 2022, with Game of the Year and Best Action and Adventure Game awards. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is very reminiscent of titles like God of war or Dark Souls, but puts you in control of a badass ninja named Wolf seeking revenge. In addition to absurdly beautiful graphics, electrifying combats and gigantic bosses, the game features some innovative mechanics, especially in relation to combats, which have no HP bar.
22. Stardew Valley
Stardew Valley is an RPG/farming simulator that is often found on lists like this. With minimalist graphics and simple mechanics, the game is a captivating surprise and one of the most acclaimed and addictive indie games today. In it, you take over a farm and need to take care of everything, at the same time you need to develop your relationships with your neighbors.
23. Don’t Starve
Don't Starve is one of the most popular survival games on the market. Like most games of the type, you find yourself on an island without any items or tools, and you need to collect materials to ensure your survival. The big difference here is undoubtedly the level of difficulty. Absolutely nothing in the game teaches you what to do with items and how to craft new ones, so you have to learn it for yourself through countless attempts. Also, the map is randomly generated whenever you start a new game, so you can never learn where things are.
24. The Sims 4
There's no way the best life simulator is left out of this list. The Sims 4 is such a success that it's almost synonymous with the genre it's a part of. There's no way to think about normal life simulation and not think about The Sims, is there? Even so, with its various expansions, The Sims 4 has already expanded (hehe) its limits and, nowadays, allows you to control vampires, monsters, extraterrestrials and much more.
25. Machinarium
Machinarium is an incredibly well-developed point and click: amazing graphics, innovative mechanics, extremely original puzzles, characters and captivating soundtrack, everything. Here you control a cute little robot who needs to save his girlfriend and the whole city from an explosion. For this, you need to advance in the scenarios by solving very well-designed puzzles. A little known game, but highly recommended.
26.Undertale
Undertale is one of the most original games we know, as it's a kind of RPG/interactive story that seems to interact directly with the player, not the character. Here, your decisions are memorized by the game even after a game over, so you never get rid of the consequences of your choices. Undertale is also perfect for those with a weak PC.
27 Cities: Skylines
Finally, an incredible city simulator. Cities: Skylines is a Sim City style city simulator, but better in absolutely every way. The game has a lot of content and is quite complex and true to reality, requiring the player to be aware of many things at the same time to make their city work properly. What may seem intimidating to more casual gamers is also attractive to more hardcore gamers, so much so that the game is highly sought after by professionals in the field of city planning. For those who like simulators, Cities: Skylines is a must-play.
