How to get special items in Pokemon GO
The game's six special items can be obtained in the same ways, so there is no way to search for a specific item. If you are in need of an Up Grade, for example, you should try the ways listed below until the item appears.
PokeStops
Despite being the standard way to get special items, this is also the most difficult. It is possible to get special items at PokeStops, but the odds are very low, so many players don't even know it's possible. Generally, you'll need to visit A LOT of PokeStops to get a special item, unless you're very lucky.
weekly rewards
The safest way to get special items. If you visit PokeStops every day for a week, you will receive a reward containing a guaranteed special item.
Present
Gifts have the chance, however small, of containing special items. Try to exchange them with friends whenever possible.
field surveys
Completing Field Research can also yield special items. Keep an eye on the list of rewards for each one to seek out your desired items.
Battles between trainers
Battles between trainers offer rewards that may contain special items. Battles against other players can yield up to three rewards per day, while dueling NPCs (non-player characters) is limited to one reward per day.
