With so many updates, it is certain that Fortnite is already heavier than it was in the past. That's why we've put together a complete and updated guide below for you who have a weak PC and are having trouble running the game. Some of the tips are specifically geared towards game performance while others optimize the performance of your Windows as a whole. Check out!
Lower Fortnite's default settings
You know when you reduce the quality of graphics in the game to make it run better? There is a more optimized and effective way to do this, which is to change your Fortnite launch settings. To do this, perform the following steps:
1 - Download this file with optimized settings to run Fortnite on Weak PC. It is identical to a file you already have in your Fortnite, but edited with all the best settings. The file will be compressed so you will need the WinRAR program to open it. In doing so, navigate through the folders until you reach the directory FortniteFPSBoost>FortniteFPSBoost>Fortnite Config>Too Low and locate the GamerUserSettings.ini file:
Keep the window open because you will need to extract this file in the folder that we will talk about below.
Attention: when accessing the "High" and "Medium" folders you will find a file identical to the one mentioned above, with the difference that they are configured for higher resolutions. Start by testing the file in the "Very Low" folder, and if you don't like the quality of the graphics, repeat the process using the other files.
2 - In the "Run" tool (Windows + R) of the Start Menu, type appdata and press OK:
3 - Then navigate to the directory Local>FortniteGame>Saved>Config>WindowsClient until you see the GameUserSettings.ini file. It will be replaced by the new downloaded file. To do this, just drag the file located in the step above:
4 - Ready, after replacing the files your Fortnite will have all the settings automatically reduced, so you won't need to change anything else within the game. You can also run the file in a text editor to see the exact values ââof the settings:
In case you want to edit something manually, the most important parameters are:
- ResolutionSizeX e ResolutionSizeY: Set the resolution of your game.
- sg.ResolutionQuality: Sets the overall quality of Fortnite graphics. The lower the value entered, the better the game performance.
Increase system performance
In the Start Menu search bar, type "View advanced system settings" and select the menu of the same name. In the next window, on the "Advanced" tab, click on "Settings" in the "Performance" section:
In the next window, check the option "Adjust for better performance" and then select "Ok".
Optimize system startup
Leaving now for tips applicable on your Windows, type msconfig in the Start Menu search bar and press Enter. In the new window, select the "Startup" tab and then "Advanced Options":
In the "Number of processors" field, select the maximum number that appears and then click "Ok":
Back in the previous window, go to the "Services" tab and check the "Hide all Microsoft services" box. This will prevent you from disabling any important programs. Then uncheck any programs you don't use. Then select "Ok":
Increase power plan performance
Again in the Start Menu search bar type "Choose a power plan" and in the next window select "Maximum Performance":
There is a chance this option is not available to you. In that case, type "cmd" in the Start Menu search bar, right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator":
With the Command Prompt open, copy and paste the following code:
powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
You'll know you've done everything right if the following message appears: "Power Scheme GUID: ee64ee27-468a-4a62-ba0d-74606d1b6a6c (Maximum Performance)". In this case, restart your computer and return to the power plan menu mentioned above. The Maximum Performance option will be unlocked.
Disable Game Mode and Game Bar
In the Start Menu search bar, type "Game Mode" and select "Game Mode Settings". On the next screen, turn off Game Mode:
On the same screen, in the side menu, select "Game Bar", and on the next screen, disable it too:
Game Mode is a Windows 10 tool designed to optimize gaming performance. However, it is already proven that it ends up demanding more from your PC and doesn't bring any benefit. The Game Bar only serves to help you record your screen while playing. If you're not going to use it, there's no reason for it to be active.
Increase CPU priority for Fortnite
Once you have Fortnite open, minimize the game, open the Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and access the "Details" tab:
In the list of ongoing processes, look for "FortniteClient.exe", right click, select the "Set Priority" menu, then increase it to "High" or "Above Normal". Note that this process is not saved by the PC, so you will have to do this every time the game is open.
Enter additional command line arguments
This method is a more practical way to increase the number of processor cores dedicated to Fortnite and also to increase the processor priority for the game. In the Epic Games Launcher, select the "settings" and on the next screen scroll down to "Manage Games>Fortnite" and check the box "Additional command line arguments". This will enable a text box just below where you must paste the following code:
-fullscreen -useallavailablecores -high
After entering the code above, just exit the settings menu and the next time you start your Fortnite the changes will be applied.
