There's nothing worse in CS:GO than suffering a drop in FPS (frames per second) every time you switch shots. To resolve this issue, check below for the best updated tips to increase your in-game FPS. No more blaming the lag!
Optimize CS:GO startup
In the Steam library, right click on CS:GO, go to "Properties" and then "Set boot options".
In the next window, type the following command:
-threads X -novid -nojoy -high -freq Y +sv_holiday_mode 0 -nod3d9ex
Attention: replace "X" with the number of cores on your processor and "Y" with the frequency of your monitor. To find the number of cores, go to the Start Menu, type “DXDIAG” and run it. In the next window, find the "Processor" field, see the number of CPUs in parentheses (as in the image below) and fill that value in the code:
To find your monitor frequency, right-click on the Desktop and select Display Settings>Advanced Screen Settings and see the value marked in the Refresh rate field:
After filling in the code, select "OK" to exit.
Lower your Windows resolution
back to "Display Settings", find the "Screen resolution" section and decrease the resolution. We suggest that you start with 1280x720. Depending on the result, you can go back to increase or decrease it even more.
Optimize game affinity with processors
With CS:GO open, minimize it and access the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del). In the "Details" tab, find the task "csgo.exe", right-click and select the "Set affinity" option.
The next screen should have all CPUs checked (since you configured it that way in the step above). However, whenever you start the game, uncheck CPU 0. Maximize power plan performance
In the Start Menu search bar, type "Choose a power plan" and in the next window select "Maximum Performance";
If the maximum performance option does not appear for you, type "cmd" in the Start Menu search bar, right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator":
In the Command Prompt, copy and paste the following code:
powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61
If you did it right, you will get the following message: "Power Scheme GUID: ee64ee27-468a-4a62-ba0d-74606d1b6a6c (Maximum Performance)". In this case, restart your computer and return to the power plan menu mentioned above. The Maximum Performance option will be unlocked.
Use the disk defragmenter
In the Start Menu, look for the tool "Defrag and optimize". After accessing it, select the "Optimize" option and wait for the process to complete. If you've never done this before, it may take a while, so proceed to the other steps while it completes.
