Best Genshin Impact characters

With almost 35 Genshin Impact characters to choose from, it's hard to know how to assemble your dream team. But that's the joy of Genshin Impact - with the right Constellations and Elemental Resonance, as well as weapons and artifacts, any character in the game is viable. Genshin Impact is about collecting characters you enjoy playing with, not just because they are higher level or part of the current meta. So what's the point in a Genshin level list Impact?

Well, if you're just starting out or don't want to spend real money, you're working with a limited set of characters, so knowing the overall strength and usefulness of characters relative to their rarity is helpful when building a team. And with new characters dropping all the time, like Kazuha for version 1.6, it's hard to keep up. Every character is powerful if you build them right, and as a PvE game, choosing who you like is more important than who is the best. Still, if your goal is that elusive goal, this Genshin Impact level list will help you get started.

Who are the new Genshin Impact characters?

The newest Genshin Impact character is Kazuha, an Anemo ronin that you might want to use right now with the Leaves in the Wind banner. The next batch of characters is expected to be officially announced during the version 1.7 live stream on July 9, but due to leaks, the characters are expected to come from Inazuma, the Japanese region that will likely arrive next in the game. The characters must be Ayaka, a Hydro sword wielder, and Yoimiya, a Pyro archer.

Genshin Impact Character Tier List – How it works

These tier lists (tiers) will be divided into five levels, which we will describe below:

  • S-Tier : The best characters in the game, taking into account the current metagame.
  • A Tier : Characters that are remarkable and very good, useful for whatever situation you face.
  • B-Tier : Good characters that can balance our team if we don't have the best.
  • C Tier : not-so-bad characters, but should be replaced with better ones as soon as you get a chance to do so.

This goes without saying but it's worth pointing out, however level lists are not an exact science especially in a game where most of your party preferences will depend on your luck or even your tastes however this will bring you a better point of seeing how to build your team in the best possible way.

Without further ado, let's get started.

List of the Best Genshin Impact Characters

S-TIER

ganyu

This Cryo Archer is not only one of the best DPS characters for that element, but one of the best damage dealers in Genshin. She provides consistent Cryo AoE damage with Trail of the Qilin and Celestial Shower, as well as increased critical rate for her passive, Undivided Heart.

Hu Tao

The Funeral Director Hu Tao Wansheng, who wields a stick weapon, Hu Tao, attacks like a flaming truck. Not only does she deal massive Pyro damage with her elemental and passive ability, but her blast, Spirit Soother, inflicts Pyro damage in AoE and heals her when it hits.

Winds

This deaf bard is one of the most powerful Anemo characters in the game, using his Elemental Blast to summon a hurricane of AoE damage that sucks in enemies and absorbs other elements to trigger the Whirlwind. This makes Venti a versatile support for most damage-dealing characters. He also levitates, which is nice.

Bennett

A carefree adventurer with an unlucky past, Bennett is a fantastic four-star support character, using his Elemental Blast for healing, a decent attack buff, and Pyro infusion after unlocking Constellation 6. He's especially well-matched with Pyro DPS characters like Diluc or Klee due to Elemental Resonance's 25% attack boost.

Xing Qiu

Another excellent support character, this studious four-star swordsman summons damage-reducing swords that heal, and his Elemental Blast follows rain sword attacks that inflict Hydro damage. It pairs well with Electro or Pyro damage dealers, allowing for lots of Vaporize and Electro-Charged reactions.

Zhongli

As a Geo character, Zhongli is a bit like a rock. His fortifying shields are the best in the game and he gains more damage based on max HP. His Stone Steles also resonate with other Geo constructs dealing damage. A good pairing for Ningguang's Jade Screen skill or Albedo's Solar Isotome for protection and geographic damage.

albedo

This Alchemist's strength lies in his Elemental Ability: Solar Isotome. This skill provides a consistent source of AoE Geo damage, a quick cooldown, and produces elemental particles to fuel other skills. It also creates an elevated platform that your characters can use for diving attacks or to destroy – no wonder Klee likes it so much.

A-TIER

Kazuha

Like many Anemo characters, Kazuha is at her best when built for Elemental Mastery support, strengthening and facilitating Elemental Absorption and Whirlwind. Its only real downside is that Sucrose, a less rare Anemo character, can already do this extremely well.

Klee

Imagine Little Red Riding Hood with WMDs and you won't be far away. Klee is one of the best Pyro DPS characters in Genshin due to the high AoE damage his attacks inflict. His Elemental Blast, Sparks 'n' Splash is similar to Xingqiu's, except it deals damage to the Pyro, so much so that if you pair them you can trigger an almost continuous Vapor.

Jean

Since Jean's healing is based on her attack stats, she is strong support and sub-DPS rolled into one. Dandelion Field provides a powerful burst of AoE healing, while its passive, Wind Companion, keeps your party on top, as every time Jean attacks, there is a 50% chance that everyone will receive a heal.

Dilute

Although Diluc has been somewhat overshadowed by new characters, he is still one of the best DPS heroes due to his ability to frequently inflict damage to Pyro and infuse his claymore with the element. Above all, Diluc is a simple and easy to use damage agent.

yanfei

Known, perhaps unfairly, as the discounted Klee, Yanfei can't match the little red bomber in damage, but she can offer a consistent source of Pyro from a distance to burst those Elemental Reactions. Pair it with Xingqiu's blast to Vaporize anything.

Eula

As the highest physical DPS character in Genshin, Eula is very strong. But where other characters provide elemental AoE damage, Eula's powerful Icetide Vortex and Glacial Illumination abilities cater more to a one-shot playstyle.

Mona

This astrologer is a consistent source of Hydro damage, making her useful for hammering Elemental Reactions. Her ability Mirror Reflection of Doom is great in kiting, and her burst, Stellaris Phantasm, is similar to many Anemo abilities in that it allows you to trap and punish enemies. She can also run in water by becoming water.

tartaglia

This hybrid bow and spear character is a versatile damage dealer. Foul Legacy: Raging Tide allows him to switch weapons and his Elemental Burst, Havoc: Obliteration, is a strong Hydro AoE that changes depending on weapon stance. Its only real downside is the long wait time to switch between positions.

Xiao

One of Anemo's best damage dealers, not only does Xiao have a cool mask, but his blast is especially powerful. It increases his jumping skill and allows him to send AoE diving attacks like a demon pogo stick.

dione

This waitress and feline archer is a great supporting character. She uses her ability Icy Paws to provide shields with high resistance to Cryo, and her signature Mix burst for gradual healing and AoE damage.

keqing

Alongside Razor, Keqing is one of the best electrical damage dealers in Genshin. Her fast attack pattern and Stellar Restoration ability allow her to move quickly between opponents, but she also infuses her blade with Electro for Elemental Reactions.

Sucrose

Since its passives increase Elemental Mastery, Sucrose is a good support character for Anemo to facilitate and strengthen Elemental Reactions. Its explosion, Forbidden Creation - Isomer 75 / Type II is good at absorbing other elements and causing Swirl.

ningguang

As a Geo sorcerer, Ningguang constantly creates elemental shields through the Crystallize reaction. His Jade Screen ability is also very useful, blocking enemy projectiles while allowing your characters to continue shooting through them.

Razor

This wolf boy is Genshin's Electro damage dealer due in equal parts to his high physical damage and his ease of use and playstyle. Also, because he is a four star, you are much more likely to attract him than Keqing.

fischl

Alongside his pet crow Oz, Fischl is a very good source of near-constant electrical damage. Like Xiangling's Guoba, Oz keeps shooting even if you switch characters, which means you can hammer those Elemental Reactions.

B-Tier

Noelle

Alongside Zhongli, this four-star spinster knight is Genshin's Geo tank. This is because Noelle's Elemental Ability, Body Armor, provides a healing shield that scales from her defense, and she can gain elemental shields through her Crystallize reaction.

Barbara

The one and only idol of Barbara Mondstadt is a great healer, but she doesn't have the extra utility and damage of Jean and Bennett. Still, it's pretty good for a character that Genshin gives you for free after the 'Song of the Dragon and Freedom' quest.

Beidou

Despite being a solid electrical damage dealer, this pirate captain is generally considered to be less preferable to Razor due to his primarily defensive Elemental Ability. However, his burst is very powerful, and it makes him a decent tanky sub-DPS.

chongyun

Chongyun is a great Cryo DPS when paired with characters like Bennett and Xingqui for Melt, Freeze, and Shatter reactions, but it can be overshadowed by Genshin's other amazing Cryo characters.

kaeya

As a free character that you get for completing the first few story missions, Kaeya will likely be your Cryo source at the start of the game. But it's hard to recommend investing in him when there are so many stronger Cryo characters (unless you think he's hot).

Rosaria

As you might imagine for an assassin nun, Rosaria is all about quick and deadly attacks, boosting critical rate with her passives and attack speed with Constellation 1. She's well-matched to further increase a character's effectiveness. high damage like Diluc.

Qiqi

This zombie herbalist is an amazing healer, and since her talismans-based healing increases damage, like Jean, she can be an effective sub-DPS. However, this healing can often feel overwhelming, and as a four-star Cryo support, Diona is generally preferable in both versatility and rarity.

Xiangling

While this pole-wielding chef isn't as strong as some DPS characters, his Pyronado and Guoba Attack abilities make a fantastic Pyro toolkit for enabling Elemental Reactions.

xinyan

As a four-star Pyro character, Xinyan is easier to pull than Diluc, but she's actually better as a Physical DPS support than her original dealer role. Her passive '… Now it's Rock 'N 'Roll' increases Physical damage by 15% for characters protected by her shield ability.

C Tier

Lisa

While it's a good source of Electro and useful in some party combos, Lisa's Elemental Ability doesn't linger after being switched, making her less effective than other four-stars like Fischl. At least she's free.

Traveler (Anemo and Geo)

Traveler is a decent early game character and is relatively strong, but they are outclassed by Genshin's other five stars in terms of Anemo and Geo. Genshin is a game about trying out new characters, so it's no surprise that the first character we get is one of the least used.

Amber

Although she is generally considered to be one of the weakest archers in Genshin, Amber possesses one of the best decoy skills in the game: Baron Bunny. It is also a free Pyro font.

How to get Genshin Impact characters

To get Genshin Impact characters, you need to use the game's gacha system to 'Wish' on a banner. You use Genshin Impact Primogems to purchase Intertwined Fate or Acquaint Fate that match a single wish and can be used individually or in sets of ten for a guaranteed four-star hero.

Different banners feature different characters and increased pull rates, so if you want a specific character and don't want to spend money, it's best to save your Primogems and wait for them to be presented. Genshin Impact pity and soft pity systems are also important to understand:

  • After nine wishes without four stars, the tenth wish is guaranteed to be four stars.
  • After 89 votes without five stars, the 90th is guaranteed to be a five-star. Starting at 75 wishes, the chance of getting five stars increases with each wish until it reaches 100% at the 90th.
  • After 79 wishes on a gun banner without five stars, the 80th is guaranteed five stars. Starting at 65 wishes, the chance of getting five stars increases with each wish until it reaches 100% at the 80th.

If you pull someone you already own, they are converted into an item that allows you to unlock a Constellation upgrade for your current version of the character. Genshin Impact also offers five free characters:

  • Amber: story progression
  • Kaeya: story progression
  • Lisa: story progression
  • Barbara: Clear the 'Song of the Dragon and Freedom' quest
  • Xiangling: Clear floor three, chamber three in Spiral Abyss

You buy more characters from a revolving pool in Paimon's Bargains with Masterless Starglitter, a resource you accumulate through wishes. Its smaller twin, Masterless Stardust, is also obtained through wishes and can be used to purchase both types of Fate.
