Apex Legends and Fortnite are perhaps the biggest phenomena in the battle royale genre. However, the two games don't have much in common.

For you who want to decide which game to focus on, we have compared the characteristics of the two titles to help you in that choice. Check out the main differences between Apex Legends and Fortnite below!

Platforms and requirements

Both Apex Legends and Fortnite are available for Windows, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The difference is that Fortnite is also available for Mac, Nintendo Switch and Android and iOS phones. However, Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment has already reported that the game will be available for other platforms in the future.

Regarding the minimum requirements to run on PC, both games require an i3 processor and a good graphics card. The difference is in the RAM required: while Fortnite requires a minimum of 4 GB, Apex Legends requires 6 GB.

Perspective

The first major ingame difference between Apex Legends and Fortnite is perspective. While Apex Legends is only playable in 1st person (you only see what your character sees), Fortnite is only playable in 3rd person (you see the character from the back and surroundings).

Perspective is an especially relevant factor in battle royales. In Apex Legends, for example, you will rarely see the opponent without you being seen too. In Fortnite and other 3rd person battle royales, you can hide behind anything and move the camera to see what's around you (including behind) without being detected.

Modes and number of players

In Fortnite, matches involve 100 players and last, on average, 20 minutes. In Apex Legends, matches take place between 60 players and last an average of 25 minutes.

Regarding the modes, Fortnite can be played in Solo, Duo or 3 or 4 player Squads, while Apex Legends can only be played in 3 player squads. In addition, Fortnite has several temporary events such as 20-player squads, 50x50 matches, etc. However, Respawn Entertainment has already reported the possibility of Apex Legends gaining new modes in future updates.

Characters and customization

Apex Legends has 8 playable characters, each with specific abilities and characteristics. Fortnite does not have characters with different abilities.

Both games have several purely cosmetic items (skins) to customize characters and equipment.

Fighting

Combat in Apex Legends is essentially based on aim and character skills. Thus, in addition to knowing how to control the recoil (recoil) of weapons, it is essential to know the characters and use their skills well, both for attack and defense.

In Fortnite characters do not have specific abilities. Combat revolves around aiming, moving and building structures. So, shooting well is not enough to win, you need to learn how to quickly build structures to help with repositioning, both to defend and to attack. Also, it is important that you keep moving, whether running or jumping.

The construction mechanics differentiate Fortnite from other battle royales on the market, since during the game you need to farm materials to build your structures.

Armament and inventory

Apex Legends and Fortnite have several weapons ranging from pistols and machine guns to assault and sniper rifles.

The big difference between the games is that Apex Legends has several accessories for the player to attach to weapons, such as sights, butts, barrels, and so on. Also, in Fortnite the player can only carry 5 items at most. In Apex Legends you can find backpacks that increase your inventory by up to 6 spaces.

Money

Both Apex Legends and Fortnite are free to play, but they have purely cosmetic items that are purchasable for real money. However, these items can also be purchased with in-game virtual money, but in a longer time.

What game for you?

Apex Legends and Fortnite are very different games, but extremely fun. Perhaps the main difference that divides players is perspective. If you like 1st person games, play Apex Legends. If you like 3rd person games, play Fortnite.

Also, Apex Legends seems to have a steeper learning curve, with some more advanced techniques that the in-game tutorial doesn't teach, and that require practice to master. So if you like deeper games, you'll prefer Apex Legends.

Another element that can be decisive is the fact that Apex Legends is only playable in squads of 3 people, that is, you cannot play alone. So, if you don't like to depend on anyone, you might prefer to play Fortnite.
