All the Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO and Tips for Catching Them

Shiny Pokémon first appeared in Silver and Gold versions. Today they are a success, even though they are super rare! In Pokémon GO they are even harder to find, although there are a few ways you can get at least one for your collection.

For those who don't know or don't remember, a Shiny Pokémon is a different color version of its "original". He has the same powers and abilities. What really changes is his appearance, in addition to having a glow when he appears in game. In this article we will explain how you can capture one!

Participate in special Shiny Pokémon events

The first event dedicated to a Shiny was the Red Gyarados

Nintendo often creates special events in Pokémon GO. They may be related to legendary monsters such as the Mewtwo event. And it is at events of this type that Shiny Pokémon are presented.

The first of these took place in March 2022, where we were introduced to the Golden Magikarp and the Red Gyarados. It was the World Water Day event, as well as being a clear reference to Pokémon Silver, Gold and Crystal. That's because this Gyarados was the first Shiny to appear in the franchise's gaming history.

In August 2022, the Pokémon GO Park event added the Shiny versions of Pikachu and Raichu. From then on, other events were created to present the arrival of new special versions of some little monsters.

We've brought you some of the most important events and which Shiny Pokémon they've added. Every new game event that comes out we will add it to this section. Check out!

Capturing Shiny Pokémon outside of events

Niantic doesn't always do events or Raid Bosses to add Shiny Pokémon to the game. Sometimes they just add the monsters, and eventually some trainers find them around.

So, in addition to participating in special events, you can randomly encounter a Shiny while playing Pokémon GO. They will appear as wild monsters, but can also appear in Raids.

Another possibility is to hatch eggs, especially those of 7 kilometers. The odds are slim, we know, but with some persistence it's possible to get a Shiny for your collection.

Tips and facts about catching Shinies in Pokémon GO

After conducting a search, it was discovered that you have a 1 in 450 chance of finding a Shiny. That is: it is completely random to find one, even within special events. Still, there are some steps you can take to increase your odds!

  • The first one is to go into capture mode with any Pokémon you see. That's because you'll only know if he's Shiny when you try to capture him. On the map, even if he is Shiny, he will appear as a regular little monster.
  • In that sense, it's worth using Lure and Incense whenever possible, as you never know what might appear near you.
  • Every Shiny captured is seen as a favorite. So if you try to transfer it, you will be asked if you really want to do so. Just to avoid accidents
  • When playing side by side with a friend, they can try to capture the same Pokémon, but only one of them is Shiny.
  • If you find a Shiny Pokémon that transforms into a Ditto, don't be too happy: that Ditto will not be Shiny
  • In the Pokédex these Pokémon have different information from their original versions
